Yawa Aquatic Centre
Ceramic Solutions has once again been cemented as the leading partner in the delivery of high-quality leisure facilities in Australia with the opening in July 2021 of the Yawa Aquatic Centre in Rosebud, Victoria. Designed by leading architects, Peddle Thorp, the facility includes a 50m Olympic Competition Pool, Leisure Pool, Aquaplay / Splashdeck, Learn to Swim Pool, Warm Water Pool, Spa, Steam Room and Sauna, Wellness Centre and associated amenities and facilities.
The centre has been long awaited by the Mornington Shire community and Ceramic Solutions are pleased to have participated in the delivery of this state of the art leisure facility.
Ceramic Solutions supplied and installed all ceramic tiling to the various pools, main foyer and entrance, changerooms, amenities and a section of the pool hall facade. Works included rendering, waterproofing, cement screeds and laying of all tiles throughout the facility. The various ceramic surfaces supplied by German manufacturer Agrob Buchtal feature the exclusive Hytect® stain resistant antibacterial surface. Driven by the inclusion of titanium dioxide in the surface glaze, Hytect® delivers a ceramic material which is stain resistant, easy to maintain and resists the growth of mould and bacteria which are important aspects to any public accessible spaces.
With access to world class aquatic accessories, Ceramic Solutions also supplied and installed Fina endorsed starting blocks, lane ropes and water polo goals from Swedish manufacturer Malmsten, a monolithic fibreglass boom from US based Stark Industries and associated stainless steel fixtures.
The various pools at the Yawa facility feature the world’s most widely used commercial pool tiles from the Chroma Pool range in both gloss and slip resistant surfaces. Introduced by German manufacture Agrob Buchtal in 1982 the Chroma Pool tiles have become one of the most widely used tiles in the worlds best commercial aquatic facilities from Olympic Games competition pools through to facilities across Australian capital cities, regional council pools, apartment and hotel pools to hydrotherapy pools. Sections of the Yawa pools also feature slip resistant mosaics from the Agrob Buchtal Fresh series. Seating areas within the spa and warm water pool feature slip resistant Fresh Mosaics in Denim Blue Mix whilst the toddler play pool features the Fresh Light Blue Mix in both 25×25 and 50x50mm formats.
The amenity areas and changerooms feature floor tiles from the Agrob Buchtal Quarzit series and wall tiles from the Plural, Basis and Kiano series. The Quarzit White Grey floor tiles in an R11/B slip rating against the Kiano Sand White wall tiles in various changerooms provides an airy, earthy feel which is modern and clean in appearance, whilst providing the necessary safety for patrons. The entrance and foyer area of the facility features a natural timber look porcelain stoneware ceramic tile from the Agrob Buchtal Oak Series, providing the look and aesthetics of natural timber with the durability and low maintenance of a porcelain tile floor. Rounding out the extensive use of the Agrob Buchtal material is a 100m2 sand stone look porcelain tile from the Quarzit series which forms part of the overall façade to the facility building.
The “Yawa” naming of the facility by the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council followed submissions from the community. Endorsed by Bunurong / Boon Wurrung Traditional Owners, the word means “swim”, or “to swim”. Congratulations to the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council and to the architects at Peddle Thorp for delivering a world class facility that reflects the natural beauty and casual lifestyle offered by the Mornington Peninsula region.
